Tony Marmon
Account Exec. Atlanta Division

When you speak the words specialty foods and food sales representatives,
they don’t come much more experienced than Tony Marmon,
named Account Executive-Atlanta Division in August.
John Anthony [Tony] Marmon , an Atlanta native, joins the
Seidman Hudon sales team where he will be responsible for
calling on a customer base which includes Bi-Lo, Bruno’s,
Ingles, Lowes, and Whole Foods Markets. He is also responsible
for headquarters calls on a relatively new company serving
the Atlanta market – CMB Distributors.
His youthful looks bely the 40 years experience Marmon has
in the food business. Born and raised in Atlanta, he graduated
from Bass High School, followed by two years at Dekalb Junior
College. A veteran, Tony spent four years as a member of the
U.S. Air Force where he was assigned to security at Hickam
Air Force Base at Honolulu. Upon his discharge in 1972, he
returned to Atlanta and Kroger Supermarkets, which he had
joined at the age of 16 as a part time bag boy during high
school. A short time later he joined specialty food distributor
Astor Foods beginning as sales rep with a route territory.
Over time, advances led to his being assigned one of the company’s
most prestigious routes serving the Sandy Springs/Dunwoody
area. Leaving his route experiences behind, he later advanced
to positions in merchandising, sales supervision, and account
management calling on chain headquarters. He continued with
the company following its acquisition by Fine Foods. He left
the company after 23 years to go into route sales at a beer
distributorship.
Tony joined Direct Specialty, an Atlanta-based brokerage,
in 1996 to remain with the company six years following its
acquisition by Tree of Life and name change to Specialty Partners,
where he served an account manager calling on Bruno’s
and Bi-Lo.
By name and reputation – not to mention some similarities
in principals, over the years Tony had become familiar with
Gary Seidman, Ed Hudon and their company. It became possible
for Tony to add his talents to the Seidman Hudon sales team
in the rapidly growing southeast market this past August.
Tony’s love of food follows him home where he enjoys
gardening. “I like digging in the dirt,” he says.
“I raise vegetables and herbs. It’s something
I’ve been doing for about 25 years now.”
In addition to working in the garden, his love of outdoors
extends to camping, playing golf and following his hometown
Georgia Tech athletic teams. “I’m a big G-T fan.”
Tony and his wife of 30 years Gerri, who works for the state
of Georgia, live in Loganville, just northeast of Atlanta
with their 17-year old daughter Teresa, a Junior in high school.
Daughter Cristy and her husband John, who met when both were
students at the University of Georgia, are now living in Jacksonville,
FL, They recently moved from Wisconsin, relocated by his employer,
Volkswagon.
“I like the constantly changing nature of this business,”
Tony recently told TODAY’S GROCER. “It’s
full of challenges and opportunities.”
The gourmet industry is always changing, always challenging.
I like taking on a new line and developing it into a success
story.”
In this business with its rapid fire changes, we should
all be so fortunate as to have someone like Tony Marmon.
